Today, a large gathering took place at Community of Faith Church in Hockley to honor Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Alexis Ramirez Vasquez. His family, including his parents and three siblings, were present alongside friends and colleagues to bid farewell to the trooper who joined DPS in 2023.
Notable attendees included Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, Public Safety Commission Chairman Steven Mach, and Commissioners Dan Hord III and Larry Long. Several DPS leaders such as Director Steven McCraw, Senior Deputy Director Freeman Martin, Lt. Colonel Walt Goodson, Lt. Colonel Jason Taylor, and THP Chief Bryan Rippee also attended the service.
DPS Director Steven McCraw stated: “Throughout his young life, Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Alexis Ramirez Vasquez served his state and his country with incredible honor and dignity.” He further expressed gratitude for the support received since the trooper's passing and urged continued prayers for his family.
Trooper Ramirez Vasquez was involved in an incident on September 17 while investigating a traffic crash in Ector County. He was struck by a vehicle and suffered severe injuries. After being transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa and later airlifted to a Lubbock-area hospital, he succumbed to his injuries on September 28.
Before joining DPS as part of Recruit Class A-2023 stationed in Odessa, Trooper Ramirez Vasquez served in the United States Army and National Guard. A private burial with full military honors is scheduled for tomorrow at Houston National Cemetery.
