Senator Juan Chuy Hinojosa expresses his gratitude to Walmart for their generous awarding of a $358,200 grant to the Food Bank of the Rio Grand Valley. In a tweet, Senator Hinojosa thanked Walmart for their support and announced that the grant will help in feeding families in need.

The Food Bank of the Rio Grand Valley, established in 1986, serves over 76,000 people on a weekly basis. Their mission is to end hunger and improve the quality of life for people living in the Rio Grand Valley. They achieve this by providing education on proper nutrition, access to food, and connections to various community services. As the seventh-largest food bank in Texas and the 49th largest in the United States, their reach is significant.

Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa, a native of McAllen, Texas, has dedicated his career to public service. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, he earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas-Pan American and his law degree from Georgetown University. Hinojosa has held various legal positions, including staff attorney for the Legal Aid Society of Nueces County and Assistant Attorney General for the Texas Attorney General. He has also represented clients in his private practice. Additionally, he served in the House of Representatives from 1981-1991 and 1997-2003, where he played a key role in passing important bills, such as Senate Bill 24, which established the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and its School of Medicine.

In May of this year, Senator Hinojosa sponsored House Bill 3599, which provides a tax exemption on motor fuel and licensing fees for nonprofit book banks. This legislation directly benefits food banks by allowing them to save money on transportation costs, which can then be reinvested into programs or purchasing additional food for the community. By leveraging these savings, food banks like the Food Bank of the Rio Grand Valley can have a greater impact in their fight against hunger.

Walmart's generous grant to the Food Bank of the Rio Grand Valley will greatly assist in their mission to feed families in need. Senator Juan Chuy Hinojosa expresses his gratitude to Walmart for their financial support and acknowledges the significant impact it will have on the community.
