The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) provides insurance for the credit union's funds, and both federal and state regulations determine how the credit union must operate. Since its founding in 1936, UFCU has developed into a financial cooperative that serves more than 250 educational institutions, professional groups, and businesses throughout Central Texas and Galveston County. This expansion has taken place under the leadership of volunteer boards of directors that have been elected by UFCU members.
