The Texas Workforce Commission and local Workforce Solutions Partners have named Baylor Scott & White, G&H Towing Company, and Akima Support Operations as the 2023 Employers of the Year in Texas. This annual recognition acknowledges the most outstanding employers in the state.
According to the Texas Workforce Commission, it is the organization's tradition to honor Texas' top employers each year.
Baylor Scott & White emerged as Texas' Large Employer of the Year, following its nomination by Workforce Solutions Capital Area. According to the Commission, other finalists for this prestigious award included Christus St. Michael Health System and Emerson Process Management Fisher Controls.
The Texas Workforce Commission noted that Local Workforce Development Boards choose to nominate employers whose "partnership exemplifies the economic success that can be achieved through private-sector collaboration with the public sector."
G & H Towing was recognized as Small Employer of the Year. It received its nomination from Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas. Other contenders for this award were Hartmann's Inc and S & D Plumbing.
Akima Support Operations received special recognition from the Commission as Veteran-Friendly Employer of the Year. Based on a recent news release, Akima had hired 106 veterans in 2022 and boasts a 70% veteran employee population.
Lastly, H.E.B. was honored as HireAbility Employer of the Year, following a nomination by Workforce Solutions Central Texas.
