Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has addressed the severe flooding affecting the Rio Grande Valley. The region experienced significant rainfall, equivalent to half a year's worth in just 48 hours, leading to widespread damage and posing risks to residents, farmers, and ranchers.

"This is a devastating tragedy for our Valley community," said Commissioner Miller. He emphasized the importance of support from Texans during this time. Despite the need for rain, the excessive amount has caused considerable harm without replenishing Falcon Reservoir's water levels.

The hardest-hit areas include Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy counties. Floodwaters have closed roads and created hazardous conditions that threaten lives and disrupt daily activities. With river levels expected to rise further, the situation remains precarious.

Commissioner Miller advised residents and travelers in the area to follow safety guidelines: avoid driving through flooded roads, refrain from nighttime travel due to increased flood risks, stay aware of surroundings, and avoid swollen rivers and creeks.

"I urge all valley residents to prioritize their own safety and that of their families by following state and local emergency advisories," added Commissioner Sid Miller. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official sources like the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) and the National Weather Service.
