The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) has announced the appointment of Dr. Wynn Rosser as the new Commissioner of Higher Education. Dr. Rosser's background in higher education and philanthropic leadership positions him to advance Texas higher education and support the goals of "Building a Talent Strong Texas." As Commissioner, he will lead initiatives to prepare students for the workforce, aiming to strengthen Texas' economy.
"After an extensive national search, the Search Committee recommended Dr. Rosser to the board due to his deep commitment to increasing the state’s educated workforce and expanding opportunities for good jobs and meaningful careers," said Board Chair, Dr. Fred Farias. "We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Rosser to the THECB."
Governor Greg Abbott also expressed confidence in Dr. Rosser's capabilities: "Dr. Wynn Rosser brings a wealth of experience and knowledge that will help Texas continue to ensure students have access to quality, affordable education so they can succeed in high-demand, good-paying jobs."
Dr. Rosser has previously served as President and CEO of the T.L.L. Temple Foundation and Chief Executive of the Greater Texas Foundation, along with various roles within Texas higher education institutions. He will manage an operating budget exceeding $2.9 billion at THECB.
"Being selected to serve as the next Commissioner of Higher Education is an honor," said Dr. Rosser, emphasizing his focus on preparing Texas students for a changing world.
Dr. Rosser holds degrees from Kilgore College and Texas A&M University.
