The Railroad Commission of Texas has released the oil and gas production statistics for December 2024. The data was collected from 158,989 oil wells and 83,536 gas wells across the state.
According to the report, crude oil production figures provided by the RRC only account for oil produced from oil leases, excluding condensate which is reported separately. For comprehensive statistics on oil and gas production, the commission has directed interested parties to their website.
In December 2024, preliminary statewide production volumes showed that crude oil reached 122,364,931 barrels with an average daily production of 3,947,255 barrels. Natural gas production was recorded at 953,033,615 thousand cubic feet (mcf), averaging 30,743,019 mcf per day. These figures are subject to updates as additional reports are received.
Comparatively, updated figures for December 2023 show crude oil production at 143,343,601 barrels and natural gas at 1,069,512,625 mcf. Initial reports had estimated these figures lower at 110,727,499 barrels for crude oil and 847,732,706 mcf for natural gas.
The top ten counties in Texas for crude oil production in December 2024 were led by Martin County with a preliminary output of 19 million barrels. Midland County followed closely with over 18 million barrels. Other notable counties included Upton and Howard.
For natural gas production during the same period, Reeves County topped the list with over 91 million mcf. Midland County also ranked high in this category along with Webb and Martin counties.
Condensate production rankings were led by Reeves County as well with more than six million barrels produced in December.
