The Texas Legislature designated March 4 as "Make Texans Healthy Again Day." The resolution was sponsored by Senator Bryan Hughes and Representative Carrie Isaac.
According to the resolution, the health of Americans and Texans is a critical issue that can be improved by promoting better lifestyle choices and improving mental health. It states, "the 89th Texas Legislature hereby recognize March 4, 2025, as Make Texans Healthy Again Day at the State Capitol and encourage Texans to learn more about the movement and the steps they can take to improve their physical, mental, and metabolic health."
Make Texans Healthy Again (MTHA), a state-based organization inspired by the Make America Healthy Again national movement led by now-Health & Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr, was created to organize and build grassroots support for state-level policies that will improve preventative care, holistic wellness, and personal freedom in Texas. Travis McCormick is the organization's founder.
Last week, Senator Lois Kolkhorst held a press conference announcing the Make Texans Healthy Again legislative agenda. According to the text of the bills, the agenda aims to improve school lunch safety, enhance Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) nutrition, strengthen nutrition education, protect recess in schools, increase transparency in food labeling, and create a Texas Nutrition Advisory Committee.
Now, according to a press release, a legislative caucus has formed to support the Make Texans Healthy Again legislative agenda, in addition to other caucus priorities related to chronic disease and healthcare reform. The caucus includes 26 members of the legislature from both parties and both chambers.
According to McCormick, MTHA volunteers, caucus members, and advocates spent Make Texans Healthy Again Day at the Capitol meeting with legislators, their staff, and promoting the work of this growing movement in Texas.
According to the Texas Legislature Online, Senator Bryan Hughes is serving his third term in the Texas Senate representing Senate District 1. Representative Carrie Isaac is serving her second term in the Texas House representing House District 73.
