The Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center in Liberty, Texas, is inviting the public to a holiday celebration on December 6th. The event will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Center's campus located at 650 FM 1011. Attendees can enjoy an open house featuring entertainment, including a performance by the Liberty High School Choir scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The celebration offers free activities suitable for all ages, such as sweet treats, hot cocoa, caroling, and festive decorations. Visitors can also take photographs at the Jean and Price Daniel Home on the Center’s grounds, which will be adorned for the holiday season. Families are encouraged to bring children for photos with Santa and story time with Mrs. Claus. Additionally, guests can explore exhibits at the Center’s museum during the event.
This year's celebration is part of the Dayton Chamber of Commerce's 2024 Cookie Crawl. Maps detailing other participating locations will be available at the Center or through contacting the Dayton Chamber of Commerce at 936-257-2393 towards late November.
The Jean and Price Daniel Home and Archives was completed in 1983 and mirrors the design of the Texas Governor's Mansion in Austin. It stands on land donated by Governor Price Daniel and his wife Jean Houston Baldwin Daniel to support the Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center. The home preserves materials documenting their lives and public service contributions.
The Sam Houston Center operates under the Texas State Library and Archives Commission as a historical resource depository for ten Southeast Texas counties: Chambers, Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Newton, Orange, Polk, San Jacinto, and Tyler. Its mission includes collecting and preserving significant state and local government records while serving as a library of Texana and genealogical resources.
