The Texas Oil and Gas Association (TXOGA) announced that July saw upstream oil and natural gas employment increase by 1,600 compared to the previous month. The development, citing new data from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), followed an upward revision of June employment, which is now reported to have increased by 1,400 upstream jobs.
According to an August 16 press release issued by TXOGA, the figures for June originally showed a decline of 2,000 jobs.
July’s numbers indicate three out of seven months so far this calendar year in which the job count has increased, the release said.
TXOGA President Todd Staples stated in the release that the data emphasizes how "Texas continues to be the production powerhouse for the nation," adding that the U.S. remains the world’s leader in meeting basic needs.
Additionally, Staples credited "the men and women in the oil and natural gas industry."
According to the release, since the COVID-19 low point of September 2020, the sector has added 37,100 Texas upstream jobs, or an average growth of 807 jobs per month.
Established in 1919, TXOGA is the oldest and largest oil and gas trade association in the state.
