Liberty, TX – The Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center in Liberty invites readers to join the next session of the SHC Book Club on August 27. The discussion will focus on "The Lions of Fifth Avenue" by Fiona Davis.
Set in the main branch of the New York Public Library, this historical novel follows a curator working in the 1990s who discovers missing items while preparing an exhibit. Her grandmother, who lived in an apartment within the library in 1913, was married to the superintendent. The book explores their interconnected lives and challenges, providing insights into life behind the scenes at a major American library.
The Sam Houston Center Book Club features fictional works related to museums, archives, and libraries. Open to all, remaining 2024 meetings are scheduled from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday in August and November at the Center’s main building located at 650 FM 1011 in Liberty. With extensive archival holdings documenting Southeast Texas, a library collection, and a museum, the Center offers an ideal setting for discussions about novels tied to these fields. Each meeting is led by SHC staff.
Participants can obtain copies of the novels through local libraries or bookstores. For more information, contact SHC staff at (936) 336-8821 or via email at SamHoustonCenter@tsl.texas.gov.
