Texas Department of Information Resources' Cohan wins state award

The Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) announced that Statewide Digital Accessibility Program Administrator Marie Cohan is among the winners of this year’s Outstanding Women in Texas Government Professional Development Award, presented by the State Agency Council to the Commission for Women.

A June 13 press release issued by DIR stated that Gov. Greg Abbott first announced the winners of the accolade, which is given every two years, through the Office of the Texas Governor earlier this month.

Cohan was nominated by the department and selected by an independent committee, according to the release.

DIR Executive Director Amanda Crawford said in the release that Cohan is a relationship builder who has built an engaged accessibility community in Texas. The community consists of accessibility professionals from 176 state agencies and institutions of higher education and includes an online discussion forum with more than 250 government and private sector subscribers.

In her position, Cohan creates and heads statewide digital accessibility strategy, which involves her working with state and national information technology (IT) leaders, public higher education, and vendors.

According to Cohan’s LinkedIn profile, she holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA).

The release mentioned that she will be honored at a ceremony on September 25, 2024, at the JW Marriott Austin.
