ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) has announced new public service hours for its Austin headquarters, located at 1201 Brazos St. in the Capitol complex. Effective July 1, the Library Reference Reading Room and Archives Reading Room will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month.

Appointments for using archival materials are encouraged but not required, although researchers must be registered as TSLAC patrons before viewing these materials. The Library Reference Reading Room provides access to library materials and public computers with internet access without an appointment. Visitors are also invited to explore TSLAC’s rotating Texas history lobby exhibits, which feature materials from the State Archives.

The agency’s general business hours remain unchanged, operating from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on second Saturdays.

TSLAC is dedicated to preserving and documenting Texas's shared heritage by identifying, collecting, and making available official archival records of the state government. The Archives and Information Services Division maintains over 200 million pages of archival documents, more than two million volumes of printed library materials, and over ten million born-digital and digitized records accessible via the Texas Digital Archive.

The Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building, named a National Literary Landmark, serves as TSLAC’s flagship facility situated directly east of the Texas Capitol. It features exhibits such as six flags flown over Texas, six Texas seal mosaics, a panoramic Texas history mural, and other historical displays.

For further information about visiting TSLAC or its services, individuals can visit www.tsl.texas.gov/visit or call (512) 463-5437.
