The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) announced today that Jeff Walker, the Executive Administrator, will retire on March 5, 2024, after nearly eight years at the helm of the agency and over three decades with the TWDB.
As one of the longest-serving TWDB Executive Administrators, Walker's tenure was marked by innovative vision and a commitment to transparency and results-driven achievements. TWDB Chairwoman Brooke Paup expressed her gratitude, saying, “Jeff’s steadfast leadership and unwavering dedication to Texas water these many years helped transform our agency and lead to greater success."
Walker, reflecting on his time with TWDB, stated, “I tell everyone every chance I get that the Texas Water Development Board is the best agency to lead and the best job I could ever have." He expressed confidence in the agency's future, saying, "I am certain the TWDB will continue to excel in its mission to ensure a secure water future for Texas."
During Walker's tenure, the TWDB achieved significant milestones, including being named one of the top workplaces in Austin annually since 2017, issuing more than $8.9 billion in bonds, and committing nearly $11.5 billion to fund state water plan projects in Texas through the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas (SWIFT) program.
Walker's impact extended beyond the TWDB, with his industry expertise benefiting other organizations. He served as president and board member for the Council of Infrastructure Financing Authorities and as a member of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Environmental Financial Advisory Board.
Following Walker's retirement, Bryan McMath, the TWDB’s Director of Government Relations, will serve as Interim TWDB Executive Administrator while the Board searches for a permanent replacement.
The TWDB, the state agency responsible for water-related data collection and dissemination, regional water and flood planning assistance, and administering financial assistance programs for various water projects, will continue its mission under new leadership.
