State Sen. Nathan Johnson: Nobody in the Capitol ‘would ever call me timid’

State Sen. Nathan Johnson (D-Dallas) said he's not worried about having an opponent to run against because it will show constituents what he is capable of as a legislator. Johnson was recently challenged in the upcoming election by fellow state Democrat Victoria Neave Criado who currently serves as a state Representative in the Texas House.

“There’s a reason Ken Paxton’s legal team tried to kick me off the jury: I go after them and I’m good at it, and I’m consistent with it,” said Johnson on a recent edition of the Y’all-itics Podcast. “There’s nobody in that building that would ever call me timid.”

“Speaking up is something I’ve consistently done but there’s another half of being a legislator. It’s not just about getting to the microphone and protesting,” Johnson said. “You’ve also got to spend time figuring out what do your constituents need. I passed almost fifty bills last session, I’ve passed probably hundred bills in three sessions. Little bills - they aren’t little bills.”

The Y’all-itics Podcast is produced by WFAA and hosted by Jason Whitely, a Senior Political Reporter for the news station, and Jason Wheeler, a reporter and anchor for WFAA. Each week they discuss one recent topic or discussion impacting the state and its residents over a drink and welcome all Texans, natives and transplants, to listen in.

The podcast is available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
