The Texas Water Development Board approved $34.8 million in financial assistance for water and wastewater projects

The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB), the state agency responsible for ensuring a secure water future for Texas, has granted over $34 million in financial assistance to three cities in the state. This funding is aimed at facilitating water and wastewater projects and improvements.

The TWDB is tasked with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state's water and flood plans. According to its website, the TWDB also administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.

According to a press release from the TWDB, $28.5 million in funding was awarded to Liberty Hill in Williamson County. The city will use this assistance for the planning, acquisition, design, and construction of a direct potable reuse project. With this approved funding, Liberty Hill will construct a new direct potable reuse water treatment plant that will utilize treated effluent from the city’s existing South Fork Wastewater Treatment Plant to help meet the potable water demands of this rapidly expanding area.

Gladwater city, located in Gregg and Upsher counties, has been allocated $2.8 million in funding by the TWDB. Gladwater will employ this aid for the planning, design, and construction of a water system improvement project. With today's approved assistance, Gladwater plans to replace deteriorating water mains, add looping throughout the distribution system, and construct treatment and electrical upgrades at their local water treatment plant.

Aledo city in Parker County will receive a total of $3.5 million in financial assistance from the TWDB. Aledo intends to use these funds for constructing a wastewater collection system project. The city aims to complete construction of a new interceptor sewer system and make upgrades to the Old Tunnel Lift Station to increase capacity of their wastewater collection system so as to cater to their growing population.
