Border patrol vehicles chasing individuals trying to come into the United States illegally have caused vehicles to roll over, injuring the migrants. Texas gubernatorial candidate Don Huffines spoke against Texas Governor Greg Abbott for what Huffines perceives as a failure to competently secure the border.

In one particular situation on January 29, CBP agents in the Rio Grande area found a Lincoln Navigator that had rolled over, with 19 migrants in the vehicle injured, seven of whom had to be taken to medical facilities.

“Our failed leaders like Greg Abbott have allowed the situation at the Texas Border to spiral out of control," Huffines told the Lone Star State Standard in reference to the situation. "The invaders coming into our state place citizens and our law enforcement in life-threatening danger every day. When I am Governor, I will stop the invasion once and for all.”

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has said that people entering the county illegally create more than $850 in costs for taxpayers in Texas each year. According to the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, more illegal migrants were captured at the Southwest U.S. border (in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California) in 2021 than in any year previously. The total number of people captured was 1,658,206, beating the old record of 1,643,679 which occurred in 2000.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott was elected as the 48th Governor of Texas in 2014. Before being elected governor, Abbott gained experience as the longest-serving Attorney General in the history of Texas.

Huffines will run against Governor Abbott in the Texas Republican gubernatorial primary on March 1. From 2015 to 2019, he was in the Texas Senate in the 16th State Senate District. Huffines is also the CEO of Huffines Communities, a real estate development company based in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
