Texans For Lawsuit Reform (TLR), a notable entity in Texas politics, has appointed Lee Parsley as the new president of the organization. Parsley currently holds the position of general counsel within the organization. TLR founders Dick Weekley, Dick Trabulsi, and Hugh Rice Kelly will continue to be involved in the daily operations of TLR and its associated organizations.
TLR, according to its website, began its mission to establish a civil justice system that discourages non-meritorious lawsuits or "outrageous" claims for damages in 1994.
Open Secrets reports that TLR has made significant contributions to candidates across the state and has lobbied for legislation during legislative sessions in Texas.
A press release from TLR states that the position Parsley will assume as president of TLR has been vacant since 2020.
Parsley is an appellate lawyer who became affiliated with TLR as outside counsel in 2002 and was appointed general counsel in 2016. The organization credits his expertise as being instrumental in research, development, and advocacy behind landmark tort reforms in Texas, including the comprehensive omnibus reform bill of 2003.
In a statement about Parsley's appointment, TLR founders Weekley, Trabulsi, and Kelly said: "Lee has been an important part of TLR's advocacy team for two decades. As President, he will ensure TLR remains an effective, policy-driven organization for years to come. Lee's elevation to TLR president has been long planned, and allows Dick Trabulsi to lighten his workload while focusing on the activities of TLRPAC, the most active and effective political action committee in the state."
