Twitter is suing Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, claiming harassment and abuse of authority.
In the suit, Twitter claims that Paxton has been harassing the company by pursuing an investigation into its moderation policies. Twitter, along with other social media companies, has decided to moderate its users and ban anyone for posting inflammatory and inaccurate messages.
The biggest victim of this was former President Donald Trump, who was banned from its platform permanently last January.
Trump is alleged to have incited the Jan. 6 Capitol riots, which prompted Twitter to ban him from posting further messages on its platform. Shortly afterward, Paxton initiated an investigation into the policies of Twitter and several other social media companies, a move Twitter calls "retaliatory."
In Twitter’s suit it says that it has the “right to make decisions about what content to disseminate through its platform.” It further states that it has the right to remove or restrict access to users who violate its policies.
Twitter says that Paxton does not have the right to penalize it for exercising its right to remove and ban content.
