Small business owners: Raising salary is burdensome and inappropriate at this time

Small business owners testified during the “Perspectives from Main Street: Raising the Wage” hearing conducted by the House Small Business Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Regulations.

Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX-25) was pleased to see business owners voice their opinions.

“Small business owners faced monumental challenges this past year,” he wrote on Twitter.

He said that those from his district know best, “increasing the minimum wage as we continue to recover from COVID-19 is a punishment for Main Street America.”

“My thanks to Alan Crawford for making his voice heard with House Committee on Small Business Republicans,” Williams added.

“For our government to now impose doubling the national minimum wage to $15.00/hour would be a piling on of burdensome costs at a time when businesses have been knocked to their knees,” Crawford said, according to William's post on Twitter.

“It would be very difficult to compete with foreign manufacturers who are not subject to this onerous mandate at a time when such upheaval has been inflicted on the business climate,” Crawford, president and owner of Rangaire Manufacturing in Cleburne, added.

Other organizations, including the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste, released their concerns stating that “this could not come at a more inappropriate time, as the Labor Department reported that unemployment claims were 861,000 last week, more than expected by analysts, indicating that recovery may take longer than expected.”
