Lawmakers have pointed to a double standard after U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has been stripped from her committee posts for her comments, while U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) was never censured for her comments.
On Thursday, the House adopted a resolution that removed Greene from her posts on the House Budget Committee and the House Education and Labor Committee.
Eleven Republicans joined the Democrats in punishing Greene for comments she made in the past regarding 9/11 and several school shootings.
“If the Democrat Majority wants to go down this road, they should start by dealing with their own members who have been at this before and AFTER their election to Congress,” U.S. Rep. Brian Babin (R-Texas) wrote on Twitter, The Epoch Times reported.
Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) commented on Babin’s effort to call out Omar instead of Greene, calling it “unbelievable” and criticized him for “false equivalence.”
Omar also had no good words for Babin, calling him “a ridiculous distraction. Obviously, we can see it is a racist, Islamophobic-fueled smear,” as reported by The Epoch Times.
The vote ended as 230-199. Greene’s removal sparked a lot of debate with statements like “double standards,” being used to describe or define the Dems.
Omar was never censured for her words before, more Republicans argued. She was accused of anti-Semitism after saying Isreal and AIPAC werebribing politicians to take pro-Israel positions. Omar was reprimanded by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). She later apologized but no further action was taken.
