Texas Relief Fund comes to the aid of restaurants vandalized in the wake of George Floyd killing

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

The Texas Relief Fund has been created to provide funding for restaurants in communities across the state suffering from COVID-19 restrictions, and now including those vandalized in the protests over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

A KSAT report said the Texas Relief Fund was created in March to help restaurants deal with pandemic-mandated closings and the lack of customers due to stay-at-home orders. It now includes those damaged because of the Floyd protests in May.

To date, approximately $2.23 million in grants of up to $5,000 have been awarded to more than 400 restaurants across Texas.

The Texas Relief Fund was created by the Texas Restaurant Association and its Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization. The body is tasked with serving the needs of 50,000 restaurants in Texas and a workforce of an estimated 1.4 million.

The Texas Restaurant Association is asking those industries involved in supplying restaurants including vendors, distributors and suppliers to contribute along with other allied businesses. Grant applications will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

For information, visit the relief fund's website.
