Gov. Greg Abbott recently announced $38 million in federal aid to local governments to assist them in funding their response to the COVID-19 crisis.
The money for the aid came from the federal government’s Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program, which is a part of the Emergency Appropriations for Coronavirus Health Response and Agency Operations Act.
The funds can be used to cover the cost of things such as overtime, equipment and supplies. It can also be used for training, travel expenses, and even addressing the medical needs of inmates.
Disbursements will be made by the governor’s Public Safety Office. The money can be used for preparation or response to the current crisis.
“These funds will help our local governments respond to COVID-19 and provide the resources that our communities need,” Abbott said in a press release. “I am grateful to our federal partners for making this crucial financial support available to the state of Texas.”
