Congressman Michael Burgess (R-Texas) said the efforts of the energy subcommittee and their efforts to allow crude oil exports were critical in the improvement of the American economy during the Trump administration. Burgess was invited to be a guest on the Wayne’s World Podcast to speak about his work as a congressman and doctor.
“The energy subcommittee, going back to 2005, we’ve done a lot of really important stuff for the state of Texas and for the nation,” said Burgess on a recent edition of the Wayne’s World Podcast. “The energy committee is where the bill came from that did lift the debate on export of crude oil. And that bill was passed as part of one of those dreaded omnibus bills in December of 2015.”
“You look at any measure of the economy, I don’t care whether it’s the employment rate, whether it’s GDP, whether it’s stock market performance, any measure of the economy that you want to choose. If you go back and look at it longitudinally, if you go back to 2016, there was an inflection point. And the economy started to really show some signs of life,” Burgess said. “And then Trump came along, and that’s where the unprecedented prosperity that arose in the first four years of the Trump administration, that’s where it came from. It came from energy production, and you know, a lot of that came from right here in Texas.”
Congressman Michael Burgess currently represents the 26th District of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives. Before starting in public service, Burgess spent thirty years working as a doctor in West Texas. He received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of North Texas and his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston.
