The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA), the organization responsible for maintaining affordable housing and regulating related programs and projects, has reportedly assisted 6 million people across Texas with various Covid-19 relief programs and funding. The programs address mortgage and housing costs, homelessness, and other community issues.
News Wires reports that TDHCA has overseen multiple programs. Bobby Wilkinson, speaking on the mission of these projects, said, "TDHCA’s efforts stand as a testament to the determination of the agency and its partners to ensure Texas families had the needed resources to overcome significant financial obstacles during and after the pandemic." Wilkinson further highlighted TDHCA's Texas Rent Relief (TRR) program as a primary example of monetary relief allocation.
Public Now adds that the TRR program was not the only milestone for the department. Other substantial programs include the Texas Homeowners Assistant Fund, which raised $634 million; Community Development Block Grants-CARES (CDBG-CARES), which allocated $92.9 million; and Housing Stability Services, which allocated an overall $132.8 million.
According to Hogg Foundation for Mental Health, TDHCA's responsibilities extend beyond monetary matters. The department also oversees housing availability for veterans, advocates for mentally ill and disabled individuals in housing affairs, and addresses the effects of the pandemic in communities across Texas.
