BRAZOS COUNTY – The Brazos County District Attorney’s Office is among the latest to join the #CanYouSeeMe anti-human trafficking campaign dedicated to educating the public on human trafficking dangers in Texas.
On Nov. 21, The DA’s office posted a photo collage on its official Instagram account highlighting the billboards, which stress to the public to report any human trafficking to the U.S. Human Trafficking Hotline. The hotline’s phone number is attached with each billboard.
The campaign aims to install a series of billboards around Southeastern Texas advocating against trafficking from now until October. It was organized by global anti-human trafficking organization A21 and has gained support from Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott, the Outdoor Advertising Association of Texas and many other county DA offices.
Brazos County DA Jarvis Parsons was among the number of speakers present at the campaign’s launch on Nov. 21 to condemn human trafficking and to commend Texas government’s efforts in bringing more awareness to the problem.
“It is a terrible, cold-blooded crime that cuts across race, sex and cultural lives in the state of Texas and in our nation,” Parson said at the event. “It tears at the fabric of who we are as a society with women and children who are allowed to be sold for pleasure.”
Also among the list of speakers was Brazos County Sheriff Chris Kirk.
According to the national hotline, 1,000 Texas residents were victims of human trafficking in 2018.
