Rep. Terri Leo Wilson has announced her initiatives in House committees to tackle transportation issues related to the Bolivar-Galveston Ferry and to advance significant public education reforms. The announcement was made through a press release on March 21, 2025.

According to the release, Rep. Leo Wilson introduced House Bill (HB) 787, aimed at addressing stalled vehicles on the Bolivar-Galveston Ferry. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has agreed to implement a solution similar to that used in Port Aransas. On the same day, she presented HB 654, which proposes dismissing prohibited hunting charges upon completion of a hunter education course. This measure was prompted by constituent concerns over financial penalties.

During a Public Education Committee hearing, Leo Wilson discussed priority bills including HB 6, which targets student discipline reform in schools, and HB 123, focused on enhancing early childhood education. She also proposed HB 610 to reduce superintendent severance pay.

In addition, according to the release, Leo Wilson introduced two bills in the Subcommittee on County & Regional Government: HB 554 would permit the sale of fireworks for Juneteenth celebrations, and HB 1338 seeks to grant Galveston County authority over setting uniform work hours. This legislative session has seen an increase in bill filings and public participation through committee hearings and witness testimonies.

"The legislative process extends far beyond the House Floor," said Leo Wilson in the release. "The work we do in committees, in stakeholder meetings, and in listening to constituents is what allows us to craft strong, effective policy. I’m proud of what we accomplished this week, and I am confident my efforts throughout the week will get us closer to achieving the reforms that Galveston and Chambers have entrusted me to get done in Austin."

Rep. Terri Leo Wilson represents House District 23 in Texas, covering Chambers and part of Galveston counties. She is recognized as one of the most conservative members of the legislature and has passed more legislation than average among her peers. She serves on both the Juvenile Justice & Family Issues and Pensions, Investments & Financial Services committees.
