U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested Axel Ramirez-Hernandez, a 32-year-old Guatemalan national, in Spring Valley on March 6. Ramirez-Hernandez has prior convictions for sexual assault of a minor and illegal reentry into the United States after deportation.

“ICE is committed to apprehending predators who commit horrific acts of violence against our youngest citizens and residents,” stated William P. Joyce, acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in New York City. “Our officers will find these criminal aliens and seek their removal from the United States.”

Ramirez initially entered the U.S. illegally at an unknown time and location without being admitted by an immigration official. On July 6, 2012, ICE served him with a notice to appear, charging him with inadmissibility to the U.S. An immigration judge ordered his removal on July 18, 2012, and he was deported to Guatemala on August 16, 2012.

Despite this order, Ramirez was encountered again by U.S. Border Patrol on April 13, 2013, in McAllen, Texas after reentering the country illegally. He was then served with a notice of intent to reinstate his prior removal order and was deported again on August 11, 2014. He subsequently reentered the U.S., once more at an unknown date and location.

Ramirez's criminal record includes a conviction by the Superior Court of Connecticut for sexual assault of a victim under 16 years old on June 6, 2011. He received a sentence of five years in prison followed by supervised release and probation. Additionally, he was convicted by the U.S. District Court in Texas for illegal re-entry after deportation on January 23, 2014, resulting in an additional sentence of incarceration.

Currently facing local charges for driving while intoxicated in Ramapo, New York, Ramirez remains under scrutiny as ICE continues its efforts to ensure public safety.

The public is encouraged to report crimes or suspicious activities by calling ICE’s hotline or completing their online tip form.
