Governor Greg Abbott has announced that KoMiCo Technology, Inc. will receive a $2 million grant from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF). This funding is aimed at expanding KoMiCo's facility in Round Rock, which specializes in precision cleaning and coatings for semiconductor wafer manufacturing tools. The expansion project is expected to create 70 new jobs and generate $36 million in capital investment.
Governor Abbott highlighted Texas' leadership role in semiconductor manufacturing and emphasized the importance of strategic investments to secure domestic supply chains. "KoMiCo’s $36 million investment to expand their clean room capacity and production lines in Round Rock supports increased chip production right here in Texas," said Abbott. He also expressed gratitude towards industry leaders like KoMiCo for contributing to innovation and job creation in the state.
KoMiCo, a subsidiary of KoMiCo Ltd., offers parts cleaning and coating services as well as equipment parts sales within the semiconductor sector. The company's planned expansion involves increasing their facility by over 40,000 square feet to enhance clean room capacity and production lines for contamination removal and coatings application crucial for wafer manufacturing tools. These processes are essential for maintaining the integrity of semiconductors by eliminating microscopic contaminants that can cause defects.
KoMiCo USA CEO Sung Soo Jang expressed appreciation for the state's support, stating, "This investment not only reinforces our industry but also strengthens the technological fabric of our nation." Senator Sarah Eckhardt also praised the investment, noting its potential impact on job creation and technological advancement in Central Texas.
The TSIF was established under the Texas CHIPS Act signed into law by Governor Abbott in 2023. This program aims to promote Texas' leadership in semiconductor research, design, and manufacturing through incentives administered by the newly formed Texas CHIPS Office within the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Office.
