Texas issues nearly 700 drilling permits in March

The Railroad Commission of Texas reported the issuance of 696 original drilling permits in March 2025. These permits include 613 for new oil or gas wells, 15 for re-entering plugged wellbores, five field transfers, one reclass, and 62 for re-completion.

The distribution of these permits by type is as follows: 137 for oil, 52 for gas, 469 for oil and gas combined, 20 for injection, one service permit, and 17 classified as other. Additionally, the commission processed completions of 1,483 oil wells, 456 gas wells, and 385 injection wells during the same period.

In February 2025, new drilling permits and completions were distributed across various districts in Texas. The Midland district led with the highest number of new oil completions at 521.
