Texas Transportation Commission allocates funds and recognizes contributions at February meeting

The Texas Transportation Commission held its February 2025 meeting, where several key decisions and recognitions were made.

In the area of aviation, the Commission allocated $10.4 million in state and federal funds to airports located in Big Lake, Fort Worth, Georgetown, Lockhart, Sherman/Denison, and Uvalde.

During the meeting, Wichita Falls District Engineer Michael D. Beaver was honored for his over 30 years of service with TxDOT. Beaver is retiring after a career that included overseeing significant projects such as Wichita Falls' only four-level interchange and upgrades to US 82.

Additionally, Chris Young was congratulated on his new role as TxDOT Human Resources Division Director. Young has been with TxDOT for a decade as director of workforce development and will take over from retiring Human Resources Director David McMillan.

The Commission also awarded contracts totaling $1.2 billion for 68 highway improvement projects and $16.6 million for nine routine maintenance projects.

Commission Chairman J. Bruce Bugg expressed gratitude towards the Associated General Contractors of Texas following his participation at ACG Capitol Day earlier this month. He highlighted that TxDOT currently manages $57 billion in active construction projects due to collaboration with ACG and the American Society of Civil Engineers Texas Section.

Bugg also acknowledged Texas voters for approving Proposition 1 and Proposition 7 funding measures in 2014 and 2015, which contribute to 47% of the funding for the 2025 Unified Transportation Program.
