Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has expressed support for Senate Bill 17, which aims to prevent foreign adversaries from purchasing Texas land. "I have long fought to ensure that our precious farm and rural lands remain free from purchases by foreign adversaries," Miller said. He emphasized the importance of protecting agricultural lands for national security.
Miller praised Senator Lois Kolkhorst for introducing the bill, describing it as "an essential piece of legislation aimed at protecting Texas land from foreign entities that pose a threat to our security." He highlighted the role of Texas farmers and ranchers in feeding and fueling America, asserting that their land must be preserved for their use.
"Our farmland is more than dirt—it’s our heritage, our economy, and our future," Miller said. He underscored the responsibility to protect this land from those who might misuse it. The bill is seen as a step toward ensuring that Texas land remains with those who value and defend it.
Miller also acknowledged the efforts of Senator Brent Hagenbuch, co-author of the bill, and thanked Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick for prioritizing national security.
