Governor Greg Abbott and incoming U.S. Border Czar Tom Homan expressed gratitude to service members stationed along the Texas border by serving them Thanksgiving meals. The event took place in Eagle Pass and Edinburg as part of Operation Lone Star.
Governor Abbott praised the efforts of the Texas National Guard and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers, stating, "You are essential to keep Texas sovereign, secure, and safe." He emphasized the importance of their mission for the future of Texas.
Homan highlighted the significance of border security for national security. "There is unprecedented success in Texas," he said. "This is the model we can take across the country."
The event was attended by National Border Patrol Council President Paul Perez, Adjutant General of Texas Major General Thomas Suelzer, DPS Director Steve McCraw, and Texas Border Czar Mike Banks.
Perez acknowledged the service members' role in protecting the country from various threats. "Everything you have done as troopers and guardsmen has saved lives," he remarked.
General Suelzer expressed his appreciation for their dedication to securing the border. Director McCraw noted their significant sacrifices, particularly during this time of year.
Texas Border Czar Banks mentioned that such events bring a sense of home to those serving at the border. He looked forward to working with new partners on border issues.
Afterward, Governor Abbott and Homan received an intelligence briefing on Operation Lone Star's progress and took an aerial tour over its assets in Eagle Pass.
