The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) has approved financial assistance amounting to $2,510,204 for the City of Hawkins in Wood County. This funding is allocated for a lead service line inventory and replacement project under the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) Lead Service Line Replacement Program.
The financial package includes $1,230,000 in financing and $1,280,204 in principal forgiveness. The city will use these funds for planning, designing, and constructing the necessary infrastructure to address lead service lines.
In addition to loan forgiveness benefits, the City of Hawkins could potentially save around $416,000 over the loan's duration by utilizing the DWSRF program.
This initiative will enable Hawkins to complete an inventory of its service lines and replace those identified as containing lead or galvanized materials.
The TWDB is responsible for managing water-related data across Texas. It supports regional water and flood planning efforts and oversees state water and flood plans. Additionally, it provides cost-effective financial aid programs aimed at constructing water supply systems, wastewater treatment facilities, flood mitigation measures, and agricultural water conservation projects.
