Texas State Representatives Brian Harrison (R-Midlothian) and Nate Schatzline (R-Fort Worth) have expressed concerns over what they claim is Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan's (R-Beaumont) refusal to issue interim charges on border security, potential child abuse, and fraud at Texas Children's Hospital.

This has prompted the lawmakers to request Representative Joe Moody (D-El Paso) to hold interim hearings. Moody serves as the chair of the Criminal Jurisprudence Committee.

According to a July 9 letter written by Harrison and Schatzline, the legislators seek hearings to address multiple whistleblowers’ complaints about alleged wrongdoing at Texas Children’s Hospital. They also want to investigate whether illegal immigrants who committed capital murder in the state are being prosecuted to the fullest extent possible.

The letter stated that Moody, in his role as committee chair, has the authority to hold hearings on any issue within the committee’s jurisdiction. The issues raised by Harrison and Schatzline fall under this jurisdiction.

Harrison and Schatzline claimed they have attempted to request Phelan for the hearings but allege that he has ignored their requests.
