Anita Scott, director of Public Policy at the Texas Home School Coalition, said that last year, they advocated for school choice and parental choice opportunities by inviting homeschool families to the Capitol to observe legislative sessions and learn about the lawmaking process. Scott was a guest on a recent episode of the Texas Talks Podcast.

“Last year at the 88th legislative session, we were advocating for the school choice package and parental choice opportunities as an organization," said Scott on a recent edition of the Texas Talks Podcast. “We invited our homeschool members to come and homeschool from the Capitol. We said, hey, bring your laptops, iPads, textbooks, and curriculum materials, and come sit in the house gallery or the city gallery. Let's watch our members of the Texas Legislature debate either the parental choice legislation or another bill.”

“This teaches our homeschooling families what it looks like to legislate and what our lawmakers do for a living from January 3rd to May every odd year. It's good citizenship, teaching them how history is made," said Scott.

Scott is the director of Public Policy at the Texas Home School Coalition (THSC). In her role, she and THSC members are dedicated to preserving the rights of Texas families to independently raise and educate their children.

Texas Talks podcast is hosted by Brad Swail. The weekly show is focused on public policy in the state of Texas, with insights from the people and organizations that influence it.

The podcast is available on Simple Cast and YouTube.
