Public Utility Commission unanimously appoints Corona executive director

The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC) has officially appointed Connie Corona as the agency's executive director. Corona, who had been serving in the position on an interim basis since February 1, 2024, received a unanimous vote to secure the role permanently.

PUC Chairman Thomas Gleeson expressed his approval of Corona's appointment in a press release issued by the agency on May 23. "Corona did an outstanding job in the past four months and has proven more than capable of helming the agency moving forward," said Gleeson.

The press release also announced that Barksdale English will assume the role of Deputy Executive Director under Corona.

According to the same release, Corona boasts a twelve-year tenure with the PUC.

She initially joined as a policy analyst before moving to NRG in 2003. However, she returned to PUC in 2017 and held several positions including Director of the Competitive Markets Division, Chief Program Officer, and Deputy Executive Director.

In her statement included in the release, Corona expressed gratitude towards the commissioners for entrusting her with leading the agency's staff.

A graduate from University of North Texas (UNT), Corona is married with three children and resides in Austin area.
