Texas Center for the Book Celebrates Lone Star Día with New Bilingual Storytime Videos

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

The Texas Center for the Book is gearing up to release three new bilingual story time videos in celebration of Lone Star Día on April 30. The videos feature English/Spanish picture books that are perfect for sharing with young children, from toddlers to second grade students, to help build word comprehension in both languages.

Leading the story time videos is Carmen Lazo, Children’s Community Program Administrator at Pflugerville Public Library, who guides viewers through the pages of each book. The featured books include "I’m Hungry!/¡Tengo Hambre!" by Angela Dominguez, "Let’s Be Friends/Seamos Amigos" by René Colato Laínez and illustrated by Nomar Perez, and "Wepa/Wepa" by J. de la Vega.

In addition to the videos, the Texas Center for the Book also offers Lone Star Día resources for each book, with activities suitable for school or public libraries, classrooms, and at home. Lone Star Día, also known as Children’s Day, Book Day (El día de los niños, El día de los libros), was founded by author and literacy advocate Pat Mora, a native Texan. This year marks the 28th year of the celebration, which is observed every April 30 in Texas.

The Texas Center for the Book, affiliated with the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, is operated by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. For more information about Lone Star Día and the resources available, interested individuals can visit www.tsl.texas.gov/lonestardia or contact Michele Chan Santos at mcsantos@tsl.texas.gov.

Through its various initiatives, the Texas State Library and Archives Commission aims to provide Texans with access to essential information, support public, academic, and school libraries, assist public agencies with record maintenance, and cater to the reading needs of Texans with disabilities.
