Governor Greg Abbott this week announced that a Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant exceeding $315,500 has been granted to Rockport Fulton Independent School District (ISD) by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The grant, in partnership with Del Mar College, will aid career and technical education (CTE) training programs by facilitating the purchase and installation of equipment to initially train over 125 students for high-demand occupations such as welders.

"We are proud to invest in the next generation of hardworking Texans to further expand the Texas economy," Abbott said. He added, "This job training grant will provide Rockport Fulton ISD students with the skills they need to succeed in their careers as welders and thrive in our great state."

The award presentation took place at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, where TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel presented the grant to state and local officials, school staff, and CTE students.

"By supporting career and technical education, Del Mar College is investing in the future of Texas’ workforce. The JET grant award will help train more than 125 Texans for rewarding careers," Daniel said.

TWC utilizes JET grants to offset start-up costs for developing career and technical education programs in various educational institutions. The equipment procured through JET grants is specifically designated to train students for employment in high-demand occupations, further contributing to the growth and enhancement of the Texan workforce.
