Governor Greg Abbott has officially launched the Texas Space Commission and unveiled the inaugural members of the Texas Space Commission Board of Directors and the Texas Aerospace Research and Space Economy Consortium (TARSEC) Executive Committee. The announcement took place at NASA's Johnson Space Center, where Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of Texas in the space industry.
Governor Abbott stated, “Texas is the launchpad for Mars, innovating the technology that will colonize humanity’s first new planet. As we look into the future of space, one thing is clear: those who reach for the stars do so from the great state of Texas."
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick expressed confidence in the appointees to the Texas Space Commission Board of Directors and the TARSEC Executive Committee, ensuring that Texas will remain at the forefront of the global space industry.
Speaker Dade Phelan highlighted Texas' significant contributions to space exploration, stating, “Texas has stood at the forefront of the expansion and evolution of the dynamic space industry." Representative Greg Bonnen also emphasized Texas' leadership in human space exploration, stating, "Texas has led human space exploration since the beginning."
The Texas Space Commission aims to bolster Texas’ leadership in civil, commercial, and military aerospace activities by fostering innovation in space exploration and commercial aerospace opportunities, integrating space industries into the state's economy. TARSEC will identify research opportunities to further enhance Texas' position in space-related activities.
Governor Abbott, alongside Lieutenant Governor Patrick and Speaker Phelan, appointed distinguished individuals to the Texas Space Commission Board of Directors and the TARSEC Executive Committee.
