ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) is seeking public input to aid in the implementation of the Texas Water Fund, as reported on February 28, 2024. The Texas Water Fund was approved by Texas voters through Proposition 6 in November 2023, allocating $1 billion for water infrastructure upgrades, innovative water supply projects, and a statewide water public awareness program.

In a statement, the TWDB announced, "Of the $1 billion appropriated to the Texas Water Fund, the TWDB must allocate at least $250 million to the New Water Supply for Texas Fund to implement innovative water supply strategies, such as marine and brackish water desalination, oil and gas produced water treatment projects, and aquifer storage and recovery projects."

To gather feedback and prioritize funding, the TWDB is accepting input through various channels, including surveys and stakeholder meetings. Stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the Texas Water Fund Survey 1 for Financial Assistance for Water Infrastructure Projects, Survey 2 for the New Water Supply for Texas Fund, and Survey 3 for the Statewide Water Public Awareness Program.

Stakeholder meetings will take place in Austin at the Barbara Jordan State Office Building and in Lubbock at the City Council Chambers in the Citizens Tower. These meetings will provide updates on implementation efforts and allow for discussions on topics related to the Texas Water Fund. Additionally, the Board will accept comments during scheduled Board meetings through April and written feedback via email at TexasWaterFund@twdb.texas.gov.

The TWDB, responsible for collecting and disseminating water-related data, regional water and flood planning, and administering financial assistance programs, encourages interested parties to visit their website for more information on the Texas Water Fund and its implementation timeline.
