The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) is proud to announce the recipients of the prestigious Actions of Valor Award. These exceptional individuals have been recognized for their unwavering dedication to protecting their fellow officers and staff, while embodying the agency's core values of integrity, courage, perseverance, and commitment.
Join us in congratulating the officers and staff from the Huntsville Unit, John M. Wynne Unit and the Alfred Hughes Unit for their outstanding achievements. Their selfless actions have not only made a significant impact within their respective units but have also contributed to the overall safety and well-being of their communities.
The team from the Huntsville Unit demonstrated exceptional bravery and coordination during a fire incident that occurred in August. Their swift response and unwavering commitment to the safety of the inmates and the 174-year-old facility were instrumental in preventing further damage and ensuring the well-being of all involved.
The following individuals were recognized from the Huntsville Unit:
Sergeant Shamus Shinette, Sergeant Taylor Martin, Sergeant Patrick Van Dyke, Correctional Officer Tyler Woten, Correctional Officer Ruth Karanja, Correctional Officer Julia Logan, Correctional Officer Adeyemi Fatok, Correctional Officer Rebecca Obangi and Captain Salvador Villanueva.
Additionally, we would like to recognize the commendable efforts of Lieutenant Robert Bauer Jr. from the Hughes Unit, as well as Lieutenant Steven Fischer, Sergeant Jevon Gilbert, Sergeant Mark Cole, and Correctional Officer Kennedy Onyoni from the Wynne Unit. These individuals exhibited remarkable courage and quick thinking, going above and beyond their call of duty to ensure the safety and security of their community.
