Texas Commission on Environmental Quality offering grants for alternative fuel vehicles

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has announced that it is now accepting applications for grants for alternative fuel vehicles and conversion systems. The grants are available for individuals, organizations, or legal entities residing in Texas, who are purchasing new vehicles or conversion systems that are powered by alternative fuel sources. The application period will run until March 22, 2024.

According to the TCEQ website, the grant program is called the Light-Duty Motor Vehicle Purchase or Lease Incentive Program (LDPLIP). The program offers grants of $5,000 for up to 1,000 eligible compressed natural gas and liquified petroleum gas vehicles and $2,500 grants for up to "2,000 eligible electric drive or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles."

To be eligible for the grant, the vehicle must be purchased or leased new and have a gross weight of 10,000 pounds or less, according to the TCEQ's website. Additionally, the vehicle must have a conversion system for compressed natural gas or propane, and run on any of the following fuel sources: compressed natural gas, propane, hydrogen fuel cell, or electric drive.

The TCEQ's mission, according to its website, is to protect the state's public health and natural resources while promoting sustainable economic development. This grant program is part of their efforts to create higher quality air and water for Texas.

Applicants can find the full application and more information on the TCEQ's website.
