Rep. Ron Reynolds, who represents the 27th District, was awarded the American Caribbean Chamber of Commerce’s Inaugural Black Excellence Award on Sept. 9.
“About last night, I was honored and humbled to receive the Inaugural Black Excellence Award from the American Caribbean Chamber Of Commerce,” Reynolds said in a Facebook post. "Congrats to all the distinguished honorees. I'm blessed beyond measure!”
The American Caribbean Chamber of Commerce (ACCC) is a nonprofit organization that advocates for commercial relations between the Caribbean and the United States, according to its website. Founded in 2018 in Houston, Texas, the head office of the ACCC still resides in the city with two other representative offices in Dallas, Austin and New Orleans, Louisiana. The main mission of the Chamber is to help the internalization of Caribbean businesses by helping to promote, advocate and network between different businesses for each of their successes. Through this, they hope to continue the growing success of Caribbean businesses as they learn to operate in the United States.
On Sept. 9, the American Caribbean Chamber of Commerce hosted its first annual Black Excellence Awards Gala. The event included a red carpet, a gourmet dinner, live entertainment and an awards ceremony. Hosted at the Hilton Garden Inn Sugar Land, the purpose of the event was to gather together to recognize and praise the work of black leaders who have especially stood out this year. They wanted to honor the “movers and shakers” who have shown exceptional leadership in building up their community.
Reynolds has received three honorary degrees from Pendleton Chapel Seminary and has won several distinguished awards including the “2021 87th Session Legislator of the Year” by Fort Bend United and the “Public Servant of the Year” by the Houston Minority Contractors Association. Reynolds is the founder of the Texas House Progressive Caucus and currently serves as the chair of the Texas Energy & Climate Caucus as well as the Legislative leader for the Texas State NAACP and the Texas Coalition of Black Democrats. First elected in 2011, Reynolds is serving his seventh term as state representative for House District 27, according to the Texas House of Representatives website.
