Texas Republican Party Chairman Lt. Col. Allen West said President Joe Biden’s immigration plans are an “imminent danger” to the state.
The president has recently announced that he will be terminating the “Remain in Mexico” program.
Under the policy, people seeking asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border are required to wait in Mexico for their court appearance.
If Biden cancels the program, approximately 25,000 immigrants will be released into the U.S. by reinstating the “catch and release” standard, One America News reported.
“Well, I think the reaction should be from state of Texas is say no," West said. "We find these individuals and we make sure that they are deported out of the state of Texas. Or, let’s take them to California, let’s take them to New York, let’s take them to Illinois, let’s take them to one of those blue states that firmly believe in open borders and legal immigration. We don’t believe that here in Texas.”
Starting Friday, Feb. 19, “the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will begin phase one of a program to restore safe and orderly processing at the southwest border,” according to its website. They will start processing immigrants who had been forced to “remain in Mexico” under the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP).
