As the whole nation has been eagerly looking forward to a peaceful turnover of the presidency, Texas lawmakers also hoped no unrest happens.
Texas Democrats stayed buoyant with their forward-looking perspective to a new administration, some expressing it on Twitter, including their call for a peaceful transition. Republicans also hoped for the same.
“Hoy es un nuevo día para nuestro país, nuestra gente, y nuestro futuro. The work begins today, U.S. Representative for Texas' 29th congressional district Sylvia Garcia said.
U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady, quoting Ronald Reagan, was among those who hoped for an undisturbed ceremony. "The orderly transfer of authority as called for in the Constitution routinely takes place, as it has for almost two centuries,” Brady wrote on Twitter. “In the eyes of many in the world, this every 4-year ceremony we accept as normal is nothing less than a miracle."
U.S. Rep. Van Taylor of Plano said he will be putting his best foot forward in working with the new administration.
“President Biden takes office in a time of immense challenge. Americans have lost loved ones, they have lost livelihoods, and many have lost hope that a deeply divided government, and nation, can work together again,” Taylor said in a statement, the Houston Chronicle reported.
“Just as I have always done with other leaders on both sides of the aisle, I will look for opportunities to work with President Biden to solve the problems facing our country. Great collaboration and passionate debate lie ahead, but today we come together to witness the peaceful transition of power and wish President Biden, Vice President Harris, and their families to very best as they begin this journey.”
While the transition unfolds, Texas lawmakers are going forward with the Biden-Harris administration for the common good and a peaceful America.
