Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) stressed in his speech during the House debate on Trump’s impeachment that half of all such proceedings in the country’s history have transpired under Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

He started his speech with quotes from the speaker.

Pelosi, who was then the House Minority Leader, in one of her weekly conferences in 2018, said, “I just don't even know why there aren't uprisings all over the country. And maybe there will be.”

Gohmert also quoted one of her interview statements last year.

“Sadly, the domestic enemies to our voting system and honoring our Constitution are right at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with their allies in the Congress of the United States.”

Referring to the quotes, the Texas Republican leader commented that the impeachment is actually implying these.

“From our side, we didn’t take those to be impeachable because we didn’t believe she surely meant that but by the Democrats taking this action you're telling me ‘No, when we say those things we mean to incite violence.'”

Addressing the speaker, he said that the impeachment is being used by her as a political weapon which is dangerous and needs to stop.

“Half of the impeachments ever conducted, ever voted for, occurred under this speaker, Gohmert further said.

The second impeachment filed against President Donald Trump charges him with “inciting insurrection” following the chaotic attack on Congress last week.

Trump could no longer run for future office in case he would be impeached and convicted.

“Congress has the constitutional authority to include in the impeachment a disqualification from serving in future offices,” according to an article from WUSA 9.
