Air Force vet fired for participating in Capitol protests expresses remorse

Retired Lt Col. Larry Rendall Brock Jr. has been terminated after he was identified allegedly as one of the rioters who broke into the Capitol.

The air force combat veteran was pictured carrying zip-tie handcuffs inside the Capitol on Wednesday and he confirmed with regret to the New Yorker that it was him carrying the cuffs.

"I wish I had not picked those up," he told the magazine, adding that he had found them on the floor.

Brock’s family attested that he had become more radical in the last few years. His face was identified by researchers through facial recognition technology.

After the protests, more than 90 individuals were arrested in connection to their participation. The demonstrators disrupted the Capitol as the House and Senate had met for a joint session to count the Electoral College votes to officially confirm President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.

Many individuals have been fired or have been forced to resign over their participation, including a West Virginia state representative, several teachers, and a CEO of a data analytics firm.

Private employers are allowed to fire at will employees for participating in the protests because the First Amendment only protects against government punishment for free speech.

Individuals and small businesses are now feeling the impact of taking part in the riot with the online community calling for the firing of or suspension of such offenders. Goosehead Insurance recently fired an attorney with some asking that his license to practice law be revoked.
