Associate General Counsel for Goosehead Insurance has been fired for participating in the Jan. 6 violent protests. The firm confirmed Paul Davis’ job loss on its official Twitter account.
"Paul Davis, Associate General Counsel, is no longer employed by Goosehead.” The CEO and co-founder has since distanced the company from the attorney’s acts.
“While we support our employees’ right to vote and express themselves politically, we do not condone violent or illegal acts. This one former employee’s actions are not reflective of our company culture or values, and we are disappointed with his behavior,” Jones wrote, as reported by Ruiqi Chen with Bloomberg Law. “Thankfully, we have the cherished rights of assembly and free speech, but those rights do not—and cannot—extend to violence in any form.”
Davis was identified after Roger Sollenberger tweeted about him participating in the protests.
“This is Paul Davis,” Sollenberger said in the tweet in which he tagged Davis’ employer. “Paul is a lawyer. He’s also associate general counsel & director of human resources at Goosehead Insurance. Today he stormed the capitol building in an attempt to stage a coup against the US government and documented it (!) on Instagram.”
Davis said in the video that he had been tear-gassed during the incidents. He said all the protesters wanted was for Dominion machines to be properly audited. The Instagram account he posted the video on has however been deleted.
Though Davis has been fired, he can still practice law in Texas and a lot of Americans are demanding for him to be disbarred. Davis is one of many employees to lose their jobs following participation in Wednesday’s violence. A West Virginia House Delegate has since resigned after he live-streamed on social media, encouraging the crowd to take part in unlawful acts.
