Gov. Greg Abbott and the Texas Education Agency have teamed up to launch the Supplementary Special Education Services (SSES) program, an effort to connect qualified students who suffer from severe cognitive disabilities with the critical services they require.

Abbott showed his approval by commenting in a recent press release. He acknowledged that education is crucial for every child. Getting the help they need is the first step.

"This program is a win for Texas families and children with special education needs, many of whom have endured education disruptions due to COVID-19," Abbott said in a press release. "Education is vital to the future of every Texas child, and every student is entitled to a high-quality education. The SSES program further advances Texas’ mission to improve outcomes for students with disabilities."

Abbott said the initiative will build on the services that students are already receiving at school, and provide additional resources and support at a pivotal moment in the lives of Texas families and their children.
